Read how a free surgery funded by Transparent Hands donors transformed a patient's life.

Abdul Mateen, a 9-year-old boy from Dera Ghazi Khan, had been facing serious health challenges that gradually worsened over time. He frequently suffered from shortness of breath and recurrent chest infections, leaving him weak and fatigued. His parents also noticed a bluish discoloration of his skin, a clear sign of reduced oxygen levels in his blood. Deeply worried about their son’s condition, his parents took him to a local hospital for medical evaluation. After performing clinical examinations and diagnostic tests, the doctor diagnosed Abdul Mateen with Partial Atrioventricular Septal Defect and Right Ventricular Volume Overload. To save his life, the doctor recommended open-heart surgery called Complete Atrioventricular Canal repair. However, the cost of the surgery was beyond his family’s financial means.

Abdul Mateen lives in a modest home with his parents and seven other family members. His father works as a woodcutter and earns only PKR 12,000 per month. This limited income barely covers food and utility bills, making it impossible for the family to arrange money for a complex cardiac procedure. During this time of despair, Mateen contacted Transparent Hands. Recognizing the gravity of his situation, we registered his case.

On November 5, 2025, Abdul Mateen was admitted to the Ittefaq Hospital, Lahore. Considering his condition, Dr. Asim Khan performed a median sternotomy, MV repair, and TV repair on November 7, 2025. The procedure was completed smoothly, and Abdul Mateen was kept under close post-operative observation. He was discharged in stable condition on November 11, 2025.

Abdul Mateen’s parents shared their feelings in these words: “Seeing our son grow weaker each day filled us with fear and helplessness. Your kindness made this treatment possible when we had no hope left. We are grateful to you for giving our son a healthier future.”

Today, Abdul Mateen is recovering well. He will be able to run and play like other kids of his age. This change in his life was made possible because of your generous support. His family is immensely grateful to you and the PCHF for making a meaningful difference in Abdul Mateen’s life.
