Success Story
Read how a free surgery funded by Transparent Hands donors transformed a patient's life.
Bismillah Shahzadi, a 4-year-old girl from Lahore, had been struggling with health complications since infancy. Her parents frequently noticed that she would become unusually tired, breathe rapidly, and complain of discomfort in her chest. Even walking across the room or trying to play with her siblings left her visibly fatigued. Concerned about her condition, her parents took her to a nearby hospital for an in-depth assessment. After carrying out essential diagnostic tests, the doctor diagnosed Bismillah with Partial Atrioventricular Septal Defect and Right Ventricular Volume Overload. The doctor recommended open-heart surgery for Partial AV Canal Repair to correct the defects and improve her cardiac function.
Bismillah lives with her parents and four siblings in a small rented home in Lahore. Her father, who earns around PKR 30,000 per month by selling toys, works hard to support his family. This income is insignificant to cover their household expenses. Due to their financial hardships, they couldn’t afford Bismillah’s life-saving heart surgery. Her parents turned to Transparent Hands for help. Moved by their plea, we registered her case.
With the generous support of donors, Bismillah was admitted to the Ittefaq Hospital in Lahore on September 16, 2025. The following day, Dr. Asim Khan expertly performed her open heart surgery for closure of defect. She received proper post-operative care in the ICU and was discharged in satisfactory condition on September 21, 2025.
Her parents shared their feelings as follows: “We are so grateful to everyone who supported Bismillah’s surgery. Your kindness has brought ease into her life and hope into ours. Watching her breathe comfortably and regain her strength means more than words can express. Thank you for helping our daughter receive the operation that was vital for her health and future.”
Today, Bismillah is recovering steadily, and her breathing has improved. Her life is now moving towards a healthier and brighter path. Her family is thankful to you and the Pakistan Children’s Heart Foundation for saving Bismillah’s life with cardiac surgery.
