Success Story
Read how a free surgery funded by Transparent Hands donors transformed a patient's life.
Muhammad Azan, a 2-year-old boy from Swat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, had been battling with serious health complications since birth. He suffered from breathlessness and chest discomfort, making even simple activities exhausting for him. Along with these symptoms, Azan experienced extreme weakness, lethargy, and failure to gain weight like other children of his age. Last year, Azan underwent a PDA stent placement to improve blood flow to his lungs. Although the procedure initially brought some relief, his symptoms gradually returned. Concerned about his worsening condition, his parents consulted a doctor for further evaluation. After conducting a thorough examination and advanced cardiac investigations, the doctor diagnosed Azan with multiple complex congenital heart defects, including Dextrocardia, Right Atrial Isomerism (RAI), Unbalanced Complete Atrioventricular Canal (CAVC), Bilateral Superior Vena Cava, and Pulmonary Atresia. These conditions severely affected his heart’s ability to pump oxygenated blood properly. To stabilize Azan’s condition and improve his oxygen levels, the doctor recommended open-heart surgery (CP shunt). Unfortunately, the cost of such a complex surgery was far beyond what his family could afford.
Azan lives in a rented house with his joint family of twelve members. His father is a madrassa student and is currently unable to earn a living due to his studies. The family relies entirely on Azan’s uncle, who works as a barber and earns only PKR 16,000 per month. This modest income barely meets daily household needs, making it impossible to arrange money for expensive cardiac surgery. In this desperate situation, Azan’s family approached Transparent Hands for help. After reviewing his medical reports and financial condition, his case was registered.
With the support of generous donors, Azan was admitted to the Ittefaq Hospital in Lahore. Dr. Asim Khan successfully performed the CP shunt open-heart surgery on December 17, 2025. The procedure went smoothly, and Azan was kept under close post-operative observation in the intensive care unit. He was discharged in stable condition on December 23, 2025.
Azan’s parents shared their gratitude as follows: “Seeing our child struggle for every breath was heartbreaking. This surgery gave him a chance to live. We can finally see hope in his future. Words cannot describe how grateful we are for your support.”
Today, Azan is recovering well and showing gradual improvement. His parents are hopeful as they watch him grow stronger each day. They are deeply thankful to you and the PCHF for saving their child’s life and giving him the chance to breathe and grow like other children.
