Success Story
Read how a free surgery funded by Transparent Hands donors transformed a patient's life.
Ahram Ali, a 4-year-old boy from Khushab, had been facing health challenges since birth. He frequently experienced shortness of breath, repeated chest infections, and constant weakness that made everyday childhood activities difficult. Other children of his age enjoyed running and playing, but Ahram often became tired after minimal physical activity. Ahram's family took him to a local hospital for an evaluation. After a thorough examination, the doctor diagnosed him with a large secundum atrial septal defect (ASD). This congenital heart condition occurs when there is an opening between the upper chambers of the heart, allowing blood to flow abnormally. To correct the defect and improve his heart function, the doctor recommended ASD closure surgery.
The cost of the surgery was beyond the family's financial means. Ahram lives in a modest house with his parents and one sibling. His father works as a laborer and earns only PKR 25,000 per month, which is the family's sole source of income. The limited earnings are spent on food, household expenses, utility bills, and the needs of both children, leaving no savings for specialized cardiac treatment. Hoping to give their son a healthier future, Ahram's parents contacted Transparent Hands. After assessing the family's financial condition and reviewing Ahram's medical records, his case was registered.
On June 26, 2026, Ahram was admitted to the University of Lahore Teaching Hospital. His ASD closure surgery was successfully performed by Dr. Faiz Rasool on June 27, 2026. The procedure repaired the opening in his heart, helping restore normal blood flow and reducing the strain on his heart and lungs. After receiving post-operative care, Ahram was discharged in stable condition on June 29, 2026.
Filled with gratitude, Ahram's father shared:
"As parents, it was heartbreaking to watch our son struggle with breathing and fall ill again and again. We knew the surgery could improve his health, but it was beyond what we could afford. Your generosity has given our child a chance to enjoy a healthier childhood. We will always be thankful for your kindness and support."
The successful surgery has corrected Ahram's heart defect and brought great relief to his family.
His family is thankful to you and the Pakistan Children’s Heart Foundation (PCHF) for ensuring Ahram’s recovery from heart disease.
