Success Story

Read how a free surgery funded by Transparent Hands donors transformed a patient's life.

Khola Bibi, a 3-year-old girl from Rajanpur, had been battling with serious health problems since birth. She often experienced shortness of breath even after mild physical activity and frequently suffered from chest infections. Constant weakness and fatigue made it difficult for her to play, eat properly, or enjoy the carefree childhood every young child deserves. Watching her struggle with these challenges left her parents deeply worried about her future. In search of answers, Khola's family took her to a local hospital for a detailed evaluation. After a thorough examination, the doctor diagnosed her with a large Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) and Pulmonary Hypertension (PHT). Together, these conditions placed excessive strain on the heart and lungs, increasing the risk of serious complications. To repair the defect and reduce pressure on her lungs, the doctor recommended VSD closure surgery.

The cost of the surgery was far beyond what Khola's family could manage. She lives in a modest house with ten family members. Her father earns only PKR 22,000 per month as an ice cream seller and is responsible for supporting the entire household, including Khola and her five siblings. Most of the family's income is spent on food, utility bills, and other essential expenses, leaving no financial capacity for cardiac surgery. Hoping to save their daughter's life, her parents reached out to Transparent Hands. After reviewing Khola's medical records and the family's financial circumstances, her case was registered.

Khola was initially admitted to the Ittefaq Hospital, Lahore, on June 7, 2026. However, during her pre-operative assessment, she developed a fever, making it unsafe to proceed with the operation. Following the doctor's advice, she was discharged so she could receive appropriate treatment and recover fully. Once her condition improved, she was readmitted on June 23, 2026. Her VSD closure surgery was successfully performed by Dr. Asim Khan. After receiving post-operative care and close medical monitoring, she was discharged in stable condition on June 27, 2026.

Filled with gratitude, Khola's father shared:

"There were moments when we feared for our daughter's health because she became tired so easily and often fell ill. Your generosity made it possible for her to receive this treatment, and we cannot thank you enough for giving our little girl another chance at a healthier life."

The successful surgery has corrected Khola's heart defect and marked an important turning point in her life.

Her parents extend their heartfelt gratitude to you and the Pakistan Children's Heart Foundation (PCHF) for making this life-changing surgery possible.
