Success Story
Read how a free surgery funded by Transparent Hands donors transformed a patient's life.
Basharat Hussain, a 4-year-old boy from Rahim Yar Khan, had been experiencing breathlessness and chest discomfort since birth. Tasks like climbing stairs and playing with friends were challenging for him. His condition also affected his physical growth, and he struggled to gain proper weight. Concerned about his health, Basharat’s parents took him to a nearby hospital for a consultation. After a thorough clinical examination and necessary diagnostic tests, the doctor diagnosed him with Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) and Pulmonary Stenosis (PS). These heart conditions were affecting the normal flow of blood and placing extra strain on his body. To address these life-threatening issues, the doctor recommended open-heart surgery for total correction.
However, the cost of this essential surgery was far beyond the family’s financial capacity. Basharat lives in a small rented house with his parents and two siblings, who study in government schools. His father works as a daily wage laborer and earns only PKR 12,000 per month. This limited income barely meets their basic household needs, making it impossible for them to arrange money for such a major procedure. During this time of difficulty, Basharat’s family reached out to Transparent Hands. After listening to their concerns, we registered his case.
On February 17, 2026, Basharat was admitted to the Ittefaq Hospital in Lahore. The following day, Dr. Asim Khan successfully performed his open-heart surgery. The procedure went smoothly, and he was kept under close observation in the ICU for post-operative care. He was discharged in stable condition on February 23, 2026.
Basharat’s parents shared their feelings as follows:
“We were extremely worried about our son’s condition and felt helpless due to our financial situation. Your support has brought relief to our family during a very hard time. We are thankful.”
Today, Basharat is recovering well at home.
His family is deeply grateful to you and the PCHF for saving Basharat’s life.
