Success Story
Read how a free surgery funded by Transparent Hands donors transformed a patient's life.
Muhammad Abbas, a 1-year-old boy from Layyah, had been suffering from shortness of breath and chest discomfort since birth. His parents noticed that even mild to moderate physical activity would leave him breathless, and his skin would develop a bluish tint. Concerned for his health, his family received medical advice. After a series of diagnostic tests, he was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), a serious congenital heart defect that disrupts normal blood flow through the heart. The doctor recommended angiography followed by open-heart surgery for total correction as the most effective treatment to restore normal heart function.
Unfortunately, the cost of this life-saving surgery was far beyond the family’s financial means. Muhammad Abbas lives in a modest home with his parents. His father works as a laborer, earning only PKR 15,000 per month. With this meager income, the family struggled to cover even basic household expenses, making it impossible to arrange money for the surgery. During this critical time, the family approached Transparent Hands for assistance, and his case was registered promptly.
On October 19, 2025, Muhammad Abbas was admitted to Ittefaq Hospital, Lahore. On October 21, 2025, Dr. Asim Khan successfully performed the open-heart surgery, correcting the defects in his heart. The surgery went smoothly, and Abbas received comprehensive post-operative care. He was discharged from the hospital in stable condition on October 25, 2025.
His parents shared their feelings as follows: “Our son has always struggled to breathe, and every day was filled with worry and sleepless nights. Medicines and minor treatments never helped.
