Success Story
Read how a free surgery funded by Transparent Hands donors transformed a patient's life.
Mahnoor Dilshaad, an 18-year-old girl from Lahore, had been struggling with a lump at the front of her neck that gradually began interfering with her daily life. Eating and swallowing became difficult, and even speaking for long periods caused discomfort. Concerned about her worsening condition, her family took her to a local hospital for an evaluation. After a thorough examination and some necessary tests, the doctor diagnosed her with Simple Multinodular Goiter, a condition in which multiple nodules enlarge the thyroid gland. Mahnoor was prescribed medication in the hope of controlling the swelling. Despite several weeks of treatment, she found no real relief. Eventually, she had to discontinue the medicines due to their ineffectiveness. As her symptoms persisted, the doctor recommended a Subtotal Thyroidectomy to remove the enlarged portion of the thyroid gland. However, the cost of surgery was far beyond what her family could manage.
Mahnoor lives in a modest home with her joint family of ten members. Her father and brother work as daily wage laborers, and together they earn only PKR 50,000 per month. Their limited income was barely enough to cover essentials such as food, utilities, and basic household needs. Affording the surgical procedure was not possible for them, and the family felt helpless watching Mahnoor struggle each day. During their search for support, they contacted Transparent Hands. After listening to their concerns, we swiftly registered her case.
On October 23, 2025, Mahnoor was admitted to Evercare Hospital for her surgery. Dr. Ahmed Fawad performed the Subtotal Thyroidectomy to remove the enlarged thyroid tissue. The procedure went smoothly, and Mahnoor received proper post-operative monitoring. She was discharged in stable condition on October 25, 2025.
Mahnoor’s parents expressed their joy as follows: “Hearing our daughter complain of pain every day was heartbreaking for us, and we felt helpless because we could not afford her treatment. Your generosity changed everything. You helped her receive the surgery, and we are deeply grateful to you for bringing comfort and hope back into her life.”
Today, Mahnoor is recovering well. She can swallow and eat without discomfort, and her fear of the lump growing further is finally gone. Her family is deeply thankful for your kindness that brought her back towards a healthier and happier life.
