Success Story
Read how a free surgery funded by Transparent Hands donors transformed a patient's life.
Ume Kalsoom, a 32-year-old woman from Kasur, had been suffering from severe pain in her left flank for three months. The pain gradually became more intense and radiated towards her back. Daily activities such as cooking, cleaning, and taking care of her children became challenging due to the discomfort. Concerned about her worsening condition, Ume Kalsoom visited a local hospital and consulted a doctor for a proper medical evaluation. After undergoing the necessary examinations and diagnostic tests, she was diagnosed with recurrent left-sided kidney stones. Three years earlier, she had undergone a left-sided pyelolithotomy to remove kidney stones, and her condition had improved for some time. However, the stones formed again, causing her severe pain. To prevent further damage to her kidney and safely remove the stones, the doctor recommended Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL). Unfortunately, the cost of the procedure was beyond the family’s financial capacity.
Ume Kalsoom lives in a modest home with her husband and two children. Her husband runs a small rented shop and earns only PKR 25,000 per month. This limited income barely covers the family’s daily expenses, utility bills, shop rent, and children’s needs. Arranging money for an expensive surgery was impossible for them. During this difficult time, Ume Kalsoom reached out to Transparent Hands for support. After listening to her concerns, we registered her case.
With your generous support, Ume Kalsoom was admitted to the Central Park Teaching Hospital, Lahore, on April 8, 2026. The following day, Dr. Rana Iqbal successfully performed her PCNL procedure. The surgery went smoothly, and she was discharged in stable condition on April 10, 2026.
Ume Kalsoom shared her feelings as follows:
“Due to my illness, it had become very difficult for me to manage my home and take care of my children. We had no means to afford the treatment. After the surgery, I feel much better and relieved. I am truly thankful to you for helping me during this difficult time.”
Today, Ume Kalsoom is recovering well at home. Her family is deeply grateful to you for donating to her surgery.
