Success Story

Read how a free surgery funded by Transparent Hands donors transformed a patient's life.

Shaukat Ali, a 58-year-old man from Lahore, was suffering from pain and discomfort due to recurring swelling around his umbilical region. After undergoing surgery for a ventral abdominal hernia in July 2025, he looked forward to returning to a normal life and continuing his work without pain. In the months following the surgery, Shaukat experienced vomiting that lasted for several weeks, leaving him weak and exhausted. Although his condition gradually improved, a new problem soon emerged. He began noticing swelling and severe pain around the area of his previous surgical scar. The discomfort intensified with time, making it difficult for him to walk, stand for long hours, or carry heavy loads. After a detailed examination, doctors diagnosed him with an incisional hernia, a condition that develops when tissue pushes through a weakened area of the abdominal wall at the site of an earlier surgical incision. To prevent the condition from worsening and to relieve his pain, the doctor recommended mesh hernioplasty. Unfortunately, arranging money for another surgery was impossible for Shaukat and his family.

Shaukat lives with his wife and three children in a modest household. As the sole provider, he earns approximately PKR 35,000 per month by selling fruits. This limited income barely covers the family's daily expenses, leaving no room for a costly surgery. Faced with growing health concerns and financial hardship, Shaukat turned to Transparent Hands for support. Understanding the nature of his condition, Transparent Hands promptly registered his case.

On April 8, 2026, Shaukat was admitted to the Evercare Hospital in Lahore. Dr. Ahmed Fawad successfully performed mesh hernioplasty to repair the hernia. The procedure was completed smoothly, and Shaukat remained under medical observation while receiving post-operative care. After showing satisfactory recovery, he was discharged in stable condition on April 9, 2026.

Expressing his gratitude, Shaukat said:

"When the pain returned, I felt helpless and worried about my future. I could not afford another surgery, and I feared that my condition would continue to worsen. Because of your kindness, I received the treatment. Thank you for giving me relief from this pain and allowing me to continue supporting my family."

Today, Shaukat is recovering well and gradually returning to his daily activities. The pain that once limited his movement has significantly improved.

His family is relieved to see him regain his strength and extends its sincere gratitude to you for making this surgery possible.
